The castle is situated on 36 acres of secluded property in Sarthe and is adjacent to Lombron, a charming village of 2,000 inhabitants, which has its own bakery, butcher, pharmacy, and café. It is near Le Mans in the Pays de la Loire region.

 
 

The Pays de la Loire is the perfect place to escape to whether you’re looking for adventure, a journey back in time or a relaxing respite. Waterways offer the tranquility of excursions allowing stops where and when you choose. Nearby river cruises also offer lunch or dinner cruises.

Rolling green hills and woods are full of opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking or gentle strolls. Echoes of history abound in the castles, abbeys and churches, and in the bustling market towns which continue ancient traditions. The beautiful and historic châteaux of the Loire Valley such as Amboise, Chenonceaux, Blois, Chambord, Angers, Villandry and Tours are all conveniently nearby. A visit to the world renowned 11th century Solesmes Abbey, where monks still sing Gregorian chant, will transport you back centuries.

Vineyards offer another taste of true French heritage. Saumur, Vouvray, Jasnières and Côteaux du Loir are some of the region’s specialties that can be tasted at many of the area’s wine cellars.

Château de Launay is ideally located for innumerable exciting day excursions: Paris is a 2-hour drive by car or just 55 minutes on the TGV (high-speed train) from Le Mans. Normandy and Brittany are both within easy reach of the castle. The Mont-St-Michel, the D-Day landing beaches and Rouen are some world famous sites. You will also be able to explore the many castles of the Loire Valley and return to your own castle each night.

Château de Launay is a short 20-minute drive from Le Mans. The old town of Le Mans and its beautiful medieval historic quarter is one of the preferred medieval and renaissance locations. It is also one of the most filmed in many French movies, including Cyrano de Bergerac which shows the old town extensively.

For the automobile enthusiasts, a stay at Château de Launay around the second weekend of June each year is a must to witness the 24 hours of Le Mans, the world's most celebrated motoring event.

Horseback riding for all levels of competency, including youngsters, is available within two kilometers at the outskirt of the village. Three well-maintained new tennis courts are open to you in the village. An 18-hole golf course is only 10 kilometers away and a well renowned 27-hole golf course in the Sarthe Valley near Solesmes and Sablé-sur-Sarthe. Exciting hot air balloon or helicopter rides above the Loire castles with photos shoots are departing nearby.

A wonderful experience for our families

"We planned a reunion with two other families and we could not have found a more ideal location than the Chateau de Launay for our week catching up together. The arrival was such a pleasant surprise. Neither the pictures or the descriptions do the setting justice! There was ample space for the children (aged between eleven and eighteen) to play ball games well away from the house and formal gardens. The swimming pool was enjoyed every day and the children enjoyed exploring the extensive grounds on the bikes provided. The chessboard in the turret room also entertained all of us at different times.

The adults were really able to relax as well, thanks to the wonderful attention the housekeeper who was always ready to help but never intrusive. It was a great treat to come down each morning and find breakfast ready and waiting, all laid out on the dining table.

We particularly appreciated all the extras that were provided for our comfort and ease, that were not mentioned on booking, such as the never-ending supply of towels for the pool, the well-stocked larder and the excellent games room for the children.

The moat, the black swan, the turrets, the lavender walks and long evenings spent chatting over wine on the terrace all created an unforgettable holiday."
